Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Advanced Studies
For Doctoral Level Studies in North American or Australian Universities 2002/2004

Introduction

With financial support from the Government of Japan, the IMF Institute administers a scholarship program, the Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Advanced Studies. The aim of the program is to train Asian nationals as applied economists, to work either at the IMF or in their home administrations. Students in the program are expected to study macroeconomics or a related subject through the Ph.D. level at one of the leading universities in the United States, Canada and Australia, whose Economics Department is strong in macroeconomics. Candidates have to list the universities to which they have applied. They have to show that they have been admitted to one of these universities in order to receive financing. Please note that the number of scholarships available under this program is limited and the competition is expected to be strong.

The Program

A Ph.D. from an American, Canadian or Australian university normally requires four or five years of study. Students are expected to complete the majority of the course work in the first two years with the remainder of the time devoted to researching and writing a dissertation.

To maintain the scholarship, students will be expected to maintain a high academic record in their course work.

Those selected for the scholarship program will attend a short orientation at the IMF offices in Washington, D.C. where the students will familiarize themselves with the IMF and meet with staff including recent Ph.D. graduates. At the conclusion of the second year of studies, scholars will return to Washington for an internship at the IMF.

Throughout their studies, scholars will be expected to stay in touch with the IMF. Upon completion of their studies they will be expected to apply for employment at the IMF. It is expected that students will complete the degree program before their thirty-third birthday.

What will the Scholarship cover?

Scholarships awarded under this program will include one round-trip airfare, tuition and other related students fees including medical insurance, books, and living allowances for two years. Students will be expected to secure another source of funding after two years. (American, Canadian or Australian universities can often help their students find these sources of funding. In addition, some students may be offered teaching assignments at the university to support their studies.) The scholarship will not cover any expenses for the scholar's family nor any expenses related to conferences, seminars, or workshops, etc.

Admissions Information

Scholarships are awarded by the IMF Institute in consultation with the Government of Japan. The following must be provided, in English, for your application to be considered:

1. A completed application form.
2. A statement on a single page, not to exceed 250 words, of the factors that you think make your application deserving of particular consideration. This statement could include career goals, why you would be interested in working as an economist at the IMF, research proposals and fields of particular interest, and academic awards or honors that you have received.
3. If you are already a graduate student, a transcript from your current university. If you are not yet a graduate student, a transcript from the last university you attended.
4. GRE and TOEFL/IELTS scores.
5. A copy of one of your applications to an American, Canadian or Australian university.

Further Information
The programs of study, admission requirements, and procedures differ among the top universities. Check with the universities directly with respect to their requirements. Note that in a number of countries and territories, the IMF has appointed the Institute of International Education (IIE) as its agent for this program. IIE's addresses and contact numbers are listed on the last page of this brochure. Contact their local office to register your interest in the program and to request assistance with your application. Application from these countries and territories should be submitted through IIE.

IIE can provide information on the procedures for applying to American, Canadian or Australian universities. Your university, or the U.S., Australia and Canadian embassies in your country may also be useful sources of information. Do not contact the IMF regarding university admissions requirements.

Jan Tinbergen Scholarships Programme (NFP-TSP)
No application deadline

http://www.more.at/nec

Jan Tinbergen Scholarships Programme (NFP-TSP) (For Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students) Petunjuk mengikuti Beasiswa.

Target Group
The Tinbergen Scholarships Programme (TSP) is aimed at nationals of developing countries who are registered as undergraduate (bachelor's) or postgraduate (master's) student. Ph-D students are not eligible for the TSP.

Aim of the Jan Tinbergen Scholarships Programme (NFP-TSP)
The objective of the Jan Tinbergen Scholarships Programme is to make it easier for students to take part in exchanges between developing countries and the Netherlands, the TSP pays all or part of the students' costs. The underlying aim is twofold: to offer students opportunity to enrich their knowledge and experience, and to foster not only international co-operation but also mutual respect and understanding.

What does the scholarship cover?
If you are a student from Indonesia going to the Netherlands, your TSP scholarship will include the following: reimbursement of the costs of travel to and from your destination, a monthly allowance, health insurance, and allowance for study materials and to pay for the visa, and a cash payment for getting settled. The scholarships are usually granted for periods of study or research or work placement between two and ten months.

Matching' is the main requirement
The main requirement concerns `matching'. TSP students go in both directions and in principle are balanced equally. For every student from a developing country who is sent to a partner institution in the Netherlands, a student from this Dutch institution must eventually be sent to the institution in Indonesia. This exchange does not necessarily need to take place at the same time, nor does it have to be in the same field of study/research, but it has to be between the sending and receiving institution. To that end an application must always contain two letters of recommendation. Both institutions must declare their intend to receive and send (a) student(s) in the framework of the TSP programme.

General Criteria
Be a national of a developing country or a country in transition;
Have an educational background that is related directly to the subject of the study/research;
Be available for the entire period of the fellowship and be able to take part in the entire study programme or course;
Have an adequate command of the English
language TOEFL, IELTS 6); Be in a good health (to be confirmed by a medical examination);
Not have studied abroad or received training abroad in the recent past.

How to apply for a TSP Scholarship?
Application forms and detailed information on the procedure and guidelines for the formulation of the proposal are available at the NEC offices in Jakarta (Mrs. M. Soesman and Mrs. S. Aprilianti) and Surabaya (Mrs. P. Susetyo). Complete application forms should be send to the NEC office in Jakarta. There is no deadline for applying for a TSP scholarship.

The Amsterdam School of Communications Research (ASCoR), University of Amsterdam offers a PhD scholarship in the theme area of "Communication and Innovation in Science and Technology".

Description:

We expect the applicant to propose and develop a theoretically informed project that focuses on the development of a specific science and/or technology (e.g., biotechnology) or a specific (e.g., regional or national) system of innovation from an evolutionary perspective. The study is elaborated with reference to the availability of large-scale databases and e-data.

This requires both familiarity with the relevant literature in the area of science, technology, and innovation studies, and the capacity and willingness to use statistics and electronic media of communication for testing theoretical assumptions.

The candidate will have considerable freedom in developing the subject matter (for example, in terms of relevant comparisons) and in extending the research, for example, with a component about the public understanding or the technology assessment of the system(s) under study. However, the main interest should be in producing a scholarly contribution to the social sciences, notably, at the interface between communication studies and STS.

Applications should preferably contain a first indication of the proposed project (not more than four pages), detailing the theoretical contribution, the envisaged operationalization, and its social relevance. Applicants are expected to participate in the courses of the Netherlands School for Science, Technology and Modern Culture (WTMC).

Requirements
* MA in Social Science or other relevant study;
* knowledge of and preferably experience with the research topic.

Position
The candidate selected to participate in this research project will be expected to complete a Ph.D. dissertation within four years. During that period the selected candidate will receive a stipend of minimally Dfl. 3700 (Euro 1681) per month. Additional funds are available for attending international conferences, special courses and computer facilities.
